You left your home in Heaven, dear one,
To come and spend time with me.
From the arms of Jesus in His holy realm,
To my loving arms you're come to be.
What is the wonderful smell of a babe?
Could it be lotion or powder or love?
I think it must be something lovingly familiar,
Like the sweet scent of heaven above.
-An excerpt from "To My Loving Arms"
(A poem written by Mindy Simpson, my mom.)
Everything about a child being born is a complete miracle. I have been blessed by three such miracles (soon to be 4) and am so grateful for what I have learned about myself, about God's love, and about these sweet and very individual little people in the process.
I was very fortunate that my other child/children were able to be present at my second and third births. I love that this could be a special moment for them also. I think it's so important to include older siblings in as much of the "baby stuff" as possible. They should feel that the birth of a new sibling is about them too.
My sister recently gave birth to her 3rd (the sweet little girl at the top of the page), and I made a "New Baby Name Puzzle"...partly for a keepsake and partly to help her older kids celebrate their new baby sister. It is now available in our online store here and may be personalized for YOUR new baby.
Such an amazing event should be celebrated! Motherhood should be celebrated! Fatherhood should be celebrated! Life should be celebrated! FAMILY should be celebrated! And certainly this new little person and the life they are just beginning should be celebrated.
In case you missed it in my intro post, Caleb and I are expecting our 4th baby in January 2016. When we first found out, I was super excited to tell our kids because I knew they would be super excited too. I love celebrating special occasions and finding ways to make things just a little bit more memorable...so I started googling. And then I tried Pinterest in a search for fun and creative ways to tell the kids. I found nothing that sounded quite right (which is crazy, because Google and Pinterest combined know EVERYTHING and I am an expert internet searcher)...so I was forced to go it alone.
I stopped by the dollar store and picked up a package of balloons, a couple of baby bottle party favors, and a baby shower bingo game. While making dinner, I wrote up a quick little scavenger hunt. While Caleb gave the kids a bath after dinner, I hid the first two clues in the baby bottles, the third with the bingo game, and the fourth inside of a balloon. (I'm not going to lie....my original clues were NOT this pretty.:))
We gave the kids a gift bag with the first clue inside. It led them to the second clue which was in their room on one of their beds. The third was in the cup cupboard. And the fourth and final clue (inside the balloon because the kids like to refer to when they "popped out of my tummy") was in the bathtub.
I took a video of the whole thing, but despite my Google proficiency, I struggle with modern technological devices and apparently had my finger over the microphone for the majority of the video. SO SAD!
They were hilarious though. At one point my oldest was sure that the surprise was a bunny! And then when they figured out that the answer was "baby," it still took a while for them to get exactly WHERE the baby was at. Their reactions were priceless and it was so much fun. Love my kids!
